Tamil Nadu State`s Director of Public Health (DPH) informed that today (10th August, Wednesday) being the National Intestinal worm eradication day, that the medicinal tablets for curing intestinal worms complaint are being distributed in the state in 56000 schools and 54000 Anganwadis.
Today, 10th August is being observed as the National Intestinal Worms Eradication Day. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has informed that around 24.10 Crore children, in the age group 1-14, are prone to infection of intestinal worms. Children in the country are suffering from lack of nutrition and anaemia.
7 out of 10 children in the age group 6 months- 5 years are affected with anaemia. In the age group 15-19, 56 percent females and 30 percent males are affected with anaemia.
50 percent of the children under the age of 5 suffer from growth shortage and 34 percent have a lower weight for their age. Intestinal worms are the main reason for these problems.
Hence, on the National Day of Intestinal Worms Eradication, the state Health Department arranges for the distribution of medicine for children under the age of 1 year and tablets for the age group 2-19.

Tablets are being distributed in over 54000 Angawadis, over 44000 government and government-aided schools, and over 12000 private schools on the occasion of the National Day of Intestinal Worms Eradication today
Anganwadi employees, school teachers, and health officer totalling around 2.5 Lakh individuals are deployed in the above work. Medicine will be given to children under the age of 1. Tablets are being given to the children in the age group 2-19. The pills are tasty and can be chewed with relish. It is expected that 2.46 Crore children will be benefited. The medicine/tablets will be distributed again on 17th August for those who missed today’s distribution.
If intestinal worms complaint is cured, anaemia will be cured. Learning ability will improve. Health also will improve. So, there are several benefits on this.
